|1981 NASCAR DAYTONA TRANS AM
The 1981 Pontiac Trans Am marked the end of the second generation F-body and the short 2 year run of the turbo-charged Pontiac 301 engine. The Trans Am Daytona Pace Car is powered by the Pontiac turbo-charged 4.9L 301ci V8 engine and was the first T/A to enbody Recaro seats. Exactly 2000 T/A Pace Cars designating the NASCAR Y85 Special Edition Package were built in 1981. When you ordered the NASCAR option -Y85 package you got all the goodies, none of which could be deleted. The familiar T/A metal dash and the Pontiac formula steering wheel were there on the NASCAR edition. The difference was the addition of the new state-of-the-art Recaro seats. This car is very original with only 62,000 miles. Where the T/A was way ahead of its competition was in the area of handling. The NASCAR edition came standard with the T/As beefy WS6 suspension and performance radial tires. The result was a large T/A that was light on its feet and could obtain .81 g’s on the skid pad handling test. This car needs nothing and is ready to add to your collection or just enjoy the next car cruise.
